Send and read messages
For everyone
- Open Messages from the sidebar, or from the ☰ menu on a phone.
- The list shows each conversation with its newest line, how long ago, and "1 unread message" when something waits.
- Open a thread. Messages show who sent them and when; your own show a delivery state ("You, 10:38, Sent").
- Type in Write a message... and send with the arrow button.
Sending with the keyboard
On a computer, Enter sends the message. To write a second line without sending, hold Shift and press Enter.
On a phone or tablet the return key always starts a new line, because it's the only one there — send with the arrow button.
What happens next
The other side gets a notification ("New message — You have a new message in a conversation") and an unread badge. Reading a thread clears your own unread count for it.
Common problems
- Can't type in a thread? A closed conversation takes no new messages. Blocking closes a thread for good — even unblocking does not reopen it.
